Library

Welcome to Culburra Public School library.

Our school library has more than 25,000 resources for staff and students, forming the centre of learning for our school community.

A specialist Teacher Librarian is in the library two days per week, with all classes visiting the library during this time for structured lessons on literacy, information technology and enquiry learning skills.

All students in the school are expected to borrow from the library each week, and need to bring a cloth library bag to protect their borrowed books. These can be purchased from the canteen or supplied from home - a pillowcase is a great substitute if you don't have a bag!

Students will borrow during their class time in the computer laboratory, which may not be on the same day as their library lesson.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to participate in their child's reading by taking an interest in their borrowing choices and taking time to read aloud as often as possible.

Information technology

21st Century learners need to develop important information literacy and computer skills, and our library is equipped with a modern computer lab and wifi for this purpose.

Infants students are encouraged to build simple electronic publishing skills and develop basic computer familiarity, while primary students will learn about effective online research, how to use Web 2.0 tools to enhance learning, and online collaboration.

Stage 3 students use a blogging platform called Edmodo to collaborate and share knowledge online with their peers. Edmodo is a secure site that offers a safe, supportive environment in which to learn about vital online safety and privacy issues.

Book Club

The Culburra Public School library offers families the opportunity to buy discounted books through the Scholastic Book Club. Brochures are distributed twice a term, and orders can be made directly with the school office. These Book Club issues support the library's aim of promoting reading and a lifelong love of books, as well as helping to stock our shelves with bonus books provided as part of Book Club purchasing.

Reading at home

There are lots of fantastic websites available to support students' developing love ot reading and literacy, as well as the 21st Century skills of computer science and information technology.
